RAPID RESPONSE (Archives)...Daily Commentary on News of the Day
This is a new section.  It will offer fresh, quick reactions by myself to news and events of the day, day by day, in this rapid-fire world of ours.  Of course, as in military campaigns, a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction.  Charge that to "the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or military campaign must maintain to be effective.  But the mission will always be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick", supported by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be pro-active.  That's all I promise.

RR#1

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.  Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.  One nurse took her copy to Melbourne ..
The old man’s sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.  And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this ‘anonymous’ poem winging across the Internet.
~ CRANKY OLD MAN ~
What do you see nurses? . . . . . .What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . when you’re looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . . . . with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food . . . . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . .’I do wish you’d try!’
Who seems not to notice . . . the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . . . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . . lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . The long day to fill?
Is that what you’re thinking?. . . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . you’re not looking at me.

I’ll tell you who I am . . . . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . as I eat at your will.
I’m a small child of Ten . . . . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . . who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . . . . with wings on his feet.
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . a lover he’ll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons . . . . . have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . . . to see I don’t mourn.
At Fifty, once more, . . . . Babies play ’round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . . . And the love that I’ve known.

I’m now an old man . . . . . . . and nature is cruel.
It’s jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . . grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . . . . . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I’m loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . . . . gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . .  . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a Cranky Old Man! - - Look closer . . . . see . . . ME ! ! !
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within . . . .

we will all, one day, be there, too!

CALIFORNIA  Legislative Year Closed on Friday.

So what did they accomplish during this high-pressure year in Sacramento?

Here are some of the highlights of the session:

* Passed Cap-n-Trade Tax which will increase gas 0.63 to 0.93 cents a gallon change and the taxes that go with it.

* Proposed increase on a new tax every residence will pay for tap water!

* A $3.46B parks bond to pay for parks in "disadvantaged communities".  The debt service alone will be over $200 million a year.  The good news is some money goes to help fix the Salton Sea which should have always been a State responsibility!

* Law to release any lifer (murder, rape, child molestation, etc.) who is 60 years old and has already spent 25 years in prison!  Charles Manson would have qualified if he just waited a few months before dying, and the Melendez brothers that murdered their parents could be released in about 12 years?  Victims?... What victims?

* A new $ 50 charge on all residents living in mobile home parks to address “living condition enforcement” in those parks?  What the hell does that mean?  As if having to live in a mobile home park isn’t bad enough?  Regressive tax on the poor?

* Requires Tesla to either unionize with the United Auto Workers Union or forfeit State incentives to buy their electric cars!  Maybe political blackmail doesn’t count as breaking any law.  Unions are loving it.  “Watch out solar companies... They may be coming after you next!!!  Hang tight Elon!

* Reduce from a felony to a misdemeanor the purposeful intent to transmit the AIDS virus to an unknowing partner

* Give preferential treatment to prisoners convicted of serious crimes that are less than 25 years old because their brains are not mature enough to understand right from wrong.  Whaaat?

* A bill to require our true sex be omitted from drivers licenses?  Whaaat?

* Free legal services for illegal immigrants..  Of course!

* Establish safe "injection zones" run by the government to oversee people injecting heroin.

Of course no rules about filth, massive numbers of illegal immigrants and street living homeless people...probably part of the NEW California lifestyle.

Yep, it all passed!  You may consider forwarding this so that ALL Californians can be proud of CALIFORNIA elected officials.

SHORT - AND NOT SO SWEET.

1) Governor Lamont, you seem to be a nice guy, although I've never met you. But "Nice Guys Finish Last". In a State which ranks about 46th in all the Bad State Categories nationally, it's aggravating to have that kind of leadership.
See three recent articles: the recent one by Chris Powell in The Day; the recent Day Editorial about "What Vote Data Tells Us"; and the recent article by Lee Elci in The Day.

2) More disappointing news about New London:
See Mike Dimauro's recent revealing report about our school administrators in The Day, Sept. 27, 2019.
See the Day Editorial about the State Pier developing fiasco.
And See the nice story about the New London Bicycle Route in The Day, Sept. 28, 2019. Nice, but "no cigar". Despite having been written by Greg Smith, a Great reporter, it fails to mention the Godfather of the New London bicycle route: Dr. Abel Donka. I guess Greg could not get an appointment to interview the fine physician / public advocate.

3) Could The Day not spare some space to publish In Toto the excellent address given by President Trump this week at the U.N.? Nearly every paragraph of reportage was followed by a paragraph of partisan opinion.
I have a suggestion: Stop publishing those Stupid "Cartoons". It's beneath you.

4) As a father and as a physician, I was really upset when I viewed the presentation of Greta Thunberg at the U.N. - not for the content, but for the obvious Child Abuse by all of the responsible adults around her that it represented. SHAME ON YOU ALL!.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S UNITED NATIONS ADDRESS.
Described by the N.Y.Times as  "desultory", but reported accurately by the WSJ, the President's address should be the bedrock of his claim to a second term ( "Trump Rejects Globalism In U.N. Speech", WSJ Sept. 25, 2019, pA8).
In that speech, he dealt with at least 10 distinct issues - and his approach to their management / resolution.
In my opinion, this qualifies Donald Trump as the best American President for these times, and as a world Statesman in development.
AMERICANS, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REPORT AND / OR LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE ADDRESS. Then observe, think, and VOTE in November, 2020.

ONCE AGAIN, AND UNTIL IT IS DEFEATED, THE ABOMINATION OF ABORTION.

Ever since Roe v. Wade (1973), a USSC decision at war with Law, Medicine and Morality, Federal and many State laws have been at war  regarding applicable Law. As if recognizing its gross error, subsequent Supreme Courts have refused to address this dichotomy.
See: "Protecting Unborn Children Is No 'Cosmic Question'", by Charles E. Forsythe (in WSJ Sept. 24, 2019, Opinion, pA17).
Of the many surrenders to expediency that define some humans, the killing of an innocent and defenseless human being is the worst.

Read this article carefully.
Then read Black's Law Dictionary definition and explanation of
"Ex post facto law".
Although relating to such a "law", which as such would be illegal, it clearly describes today's application to "alleged" and very often uncorroborated "actions" that - by their simple presentation without more - result in serious and often severe consequences for the accused.
Shame on the individuals and corporate leaders who apply these actions, prohibited under several Amendments to the U.S. Constitution (#4 through 8 relating protections of life, liberty and property), and under applicable State laws. And Shame on the current state of Juris Prudence in real-life application that so often makes implementation of these safe-guards beyond the means and time of so many accused.

NOW HEAR THIS!
Since the critical 2020 election season has begun, I will streamline my comments / opinions, without listing supporting articles. They can almost always be found in the Wall Street Journal or in The Day.
So many issues; so little time.

1) However, one article in particular is worth noting:
"California's War With Trump Is Destroying America", by Andy Serwer (in Yahoo Financial, Sept. 21, 2019). My reaction? "E Pluribus Unum".

2) "Showdown with Congress". "Showdown With The States". "Showdown With The Crazies - Leftists". "Showdown with Executive Privilege".
This is all to the Good, since Washington D.C. is loaded with Jerry Nadlers and Adam Schiffs, shills for self-interest, for business interests over all else, for totalitarian central government. DRAIN THE SWAMP.

3) President Trump is Right in his approach to international affairs:
America First; never "One World Order"; always prefer negotiation, and from strength, and avoid shooting wars. In these efforts he is being constantly undercut by his own Americans...nothing but Treachery. The latest example is the current issue with his interaction with Ukraine. The facts about this are not all out yet...except one: then - Vice President Biden's intervention with that nation on behalf of his son's business interests there. THIS NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED.

4) The U.S. Supreme Court is under attack, and with it the entire nation  under God and Constitution. Justice Neil Gorsuch recently addressed this in a Sept. 22, 2019 article. There is also a threat to "pack the Court", something that was tried - with some success - during the second term of FDR. Beware!

5) Despite complete obstruction from Democratic and Rino Congress as well as from business "usual suspects", Immigration Control is proceeding: with the Wall, with regulations, and with some appreciated help from our Latin American leaders. There are the perpetual national Dangers from China and Russia and their client States. But the greatest long-term danger to our national security is the lack of control of our national borders. And yes, Pope Francis, this is entirely consistent with "a Nation under God".

6) Locally in New London, Ct., What The Hell is going on regarding this city's historical and on-going interests in State Pier? The World's Capital of "POTENTIAL" is being poorly led and represented by its "leaders". Instead of being at the negotiating table, they are under the table - again unrepresented and out - maneuvered. People of this city, instead of bleating like sheep to slaughter in April 15, REMEMBER THIS IN NOVEMBER!

"CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?"

GS

"AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR".
Hear this, you who trample upon the needy
and destroy the poor of the land!
"When will the new moon be over", you ask,
"that we may sell our grain,
and the sabbath, that we may display the wheat?
We will diminish the ephah,
    add to the shekel,
and fix our scales for cheating!
We will buy the lowly for silver,
    and the poor for a pair of sandals;
even the refuse of the wheat we will sell!"
The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob:
Never will I forget a thing they have done!

"GLOBALISM"? "ONE WORLD ORDER"?
NEVER IN AMERICA!

Look at the nations of "Europe", now the EU:
dissolving under Socialism and the Muslim invasion.
Look at France, with its recurrent strife.
Look at Italy - or better yet, talk to expatriate natives of Italy who return regularly to the Italy of today.
Look at Germany, a great nation still too scarred by wars to end the take-over of Merkel's open border policy.

The past, present and future of America - and the future of the world after its current insanity - is NATIONALISM, hopefully benign and cooperative. but NATIONALISM nevertheless.

SUNDAY, September 15, 2019

THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF PEOPLE:
those who make things happen;
those who watch things happen;
and those who are constantly saying "Wha Happen?"

With the most consequential election in many decades coming up next year, each of us can make things happen - and avoid bad things happening - by guaranteeing a perceived and actual Fair Election.
That outcome is Not guaranteed!
Consider Gerrymandering by both Parties.
Consider efforts to rig the national Census.
Consider allowing voter fraud in all its forms.
Consider Race-baiting - and the truth about it. (See: "Trump Isn't The One Dividing Us By Race", by Heather MacDonald (in WSJ August 19, 2019, Opinion, pA19).
And now consider allowing Google mind-games to manipulate the consciousness of voters to its own ends - as it clearly did in the 2016 and 2018 elections. See the interview conducted on the "Life, Liberty and Levin show on September 14, 2019.
So, the duty of each of us citizens is to stay informed, to act on that information with our legislators and fellow citizens, and to Vote!
By making a perceived and fair Election take place next November, whatever the outcome, each of us can avoid a national disaster.

RR#2

HEREWITH, SOME MORE PERSONAL OPINIONS - BASED ON FACT.
What a concept!

1) First, the Macro view. The New York Times is no longer worthy as a source of unbiased news / information...on any page. The Wall Street Journal is its successor, separating its news from its own opinions ( the latter of which I agree with no more than 50% of the time). This is especially true of its guest Opinion Page. For a relevant example of this, see: "Impartiality Is The Source Of A Newspaper's Credibility", by Walter Hussman, Jr. (in WSJ September 10, 2019, Opinion, pA15.)

2) Trump and Bolton. If a valued advisor gets in the way of the proper conduct of business, invite him to send his advice by e-mail.

3) The situation at our southern border is a Crisis on many levels - for us Americans, who have a right to the integrity and safety of our nation, and to the hundreds of thousands of migrants headed our way. The Democrats are especially Low and Wrong and Cynical on this subject. For this, they will pay at the ballot box for years to come.

4) One of the latest of the many self-inflicted wounds festering in today's sick society is that of "transgender athletes" competing together with "straights".See the article in http://www.ctmirror.org, July 22, 2019 entitled "Transgender Sports Debate Polarizes Women's Advocates."  A "No-Brainer" if there ever was one - of course from people with no brains.

5) China and Russia will forever be America's adversaries - and sometime enemies...Russia always seeking Relevance and China always seeking Dominance. There will never be "accommodation" with either of them. Act accordingly.

6) Making a sow's ear out of a silk purse:  New London Port, Connecticut Port Authority, and the slowly rotting Democratic State of Connecticut. That's what happens when any political party has control for decades. See The Day editorial September 14, 2019. When will you learn you dummies?

1) There have always been Rich and Poor. "The poor will always be with you". But it would certainly help everyone if the Rich were much more generous with their excess...with how they got there (ie. "Win - Lose" instead of "Win - Win"), and with how they share it. Most billionaires are absolutely stingy. Did you ever see a hearse pulling a U-Haul?
2) The use of narcotics and dangerous drugs has always been with us. But never has there been so much information and so widely disseminated. The most recent demonstration of pure Stupidity is "Vaping". 3) What about the National Debt? See the article: "It's Time To Start Worrying About The National Debt", by Valerie Ramey (in WSJ August 24-25, 2019, Review, pC5). I give up trying to understand that. I just hope that America is "too big to fail".
4) Education: always more on the abject failure of Public Education. I won't repeat myself - this time.
5) Regarding global warming. Notice that I have no quotation marks around that term. It's real. But the current "science" about its causes is distorted. A useful recent article on the subject appeared in the WSJ:
"If you Want 'Renewable Energy,' Get Ready To Dig", by Mark P. Mills.
6) If you want "gun management", since "gun control" is both illegal and dangerous, work on mental health, mental illness and effective monitoring of dangerous individuals. Americans will buy into that.

That's it for now.
