campaigns,
a rapid response in one direction may occasionally have to be followed
by a "strategic withdrawal" in another direction. Charge that to
"the fog of war", and to the necessary flexibility any mental or
military
campaign must maintain to be effective. But the mission will
always
be the same: common sense, based upon facts and "real politick",
supported
by a visceral sense of Justice and a commitment to be pro-active.

who gets this sends it to 10 people,

that we'll save at least one life.
It
could save your life!

Let's say
it's 6:15 p.m. you're driving home
alone after
an usually hard day on the job..
You're
really tired, upset and frustrated.
Suddenly you
start experiencing severe pain
in your
chest that starts to radiate out
into your
arm and up into your jaw.
You are only
about five miles from the hospital
nearest your
home.
Unfortunately
you don't know if you'll be
able to make
it that far.
What can you
do?
You've been
trained in CPR
but the guy
that taught the course didn't tell
you
what to do if it happened to yourself.
- - -
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this
article seemed to be in order.
Without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who
begins to feel faint,
has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However, these victims can help
themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.
A deep breath should be taken before
each
cough, and the cough must be deep
and prolonged, as when producing sputum
from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated
about every two seconds without let up
until help arrives, or until the heart
is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs
and coughing movements squeeze the heart and
keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart
also helps it regain normal rhythm.
In this way, heart attack victims can
get to a hospital.

EBOLA VIRUS INFECTION and protection of Americans
Now comes the latest victim of Political Correctness run amok.
The prime responsibility of our government is to protect its people
from threats near and far. It's responsibility is not to
rehabilitate a continent ravaged by the excesses of former colonial
powers and by the corruption of its own leaders. But that is
exactly what our reckless "leaders" are touting to justify their
refusal to quarantine America from a potential pandemic...an action
successfully taken by some of the African nations themselves.
This is not "panic". It is common sense and basic protocol for
the management of infectious diseases of all kinds.
Then you have a litany of negligent actions and inactions taken by our
own politicized "professionals": on - the - job training and making it
up as they go along, all the while looking over their shoulders for the
approval of their political masters.
"WHERE IS IT WRITTEN..." that
- "the
virus cannot be transmitted airborne?" Viruses are notorious for
mutating to develop new capabilities. Indeed, the more hosts the
virus infects, the more opportunities it has to mutate. And it is
acknowledged by the independent scientific community that a mutation to
airborne capability would be catastrophic indeed.
- "an
infected person is not contagious until he or she begins to demonstrate
symptoms". You hope that is true, even if the person involved divulges
having symptoms.
- "after
21 days, all is clear". Perhaps, so far, hopefully!
Meanwhile,
the Governors of several States are to be lauded for their initiatives
in defense of their own citizens. Or can we expect Attorney
General Holder to initiate legal process prohibiting such action "in
order to protect Liberia..."
We can't "...stop the world". And we can't "get off". But
we can object. We can demand. We can Vote!

- Any
pets of any patients or contacts should be euthanized. I'm told
that there are over 60 million dogs in this country. CRAZY.
Above
all, the public should be told THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING

Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly -
rather true
Today
we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has
been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
-
Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
-
Why the early bird gets the worm;
-
Life isn't always fair;
-
and Maybe it was my fault.
Common
Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than
you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in
charge).
His
health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common
Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that
they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It
declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could
not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an
abortion.
Common
Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and
criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common
Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar
in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common
Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize
that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap,
and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common
Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his
wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son,
Reason.
He
is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

This is not hyperbole. I consider myself well read and pretty
knowledgeable about world affairs, among other things. But this
book teaches me a great deal at every turn of the page. If you
want prompt evidence of that, read Chapter 3: "Islamism and the Middle
East: A World in Disorder". Or at least read pages 128,129. The
last sentence is a prediction that we are living now: "If order cannot
be achieved by consensus or imposed by force, it will be wrought at
disastrous and dehumanizing cost, from the experience of chaos".

HOT
OFF THE NPR PRESS: A BREAKTHROUGH FOR ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
No, it's no cure. But it suggests an important quality of life
issue.
A researcher at the University of Iowa has discovered that such
patients can feel pleasure - or sadness - when they view or experience
appropriate stimuli...and that the pleasure or sadness lingers with
them long after they have forgotten (as they will) the reason for the
emotion.
In the study, Alzheimer's patients viewed either a movie like "When
Harry Meets Sally" or "Schindler's List". The appropriate
emotional feelings were stimulated, these lasting long after they had
forgotten the cause. Indeed, feelings of sadness lingered longer
than those of pleasure or joy.
So, don't think or say that it's of no use to visit and to interact
with your friends or relatives who have this dread disease. You
can be a source of joy...or sadness...to them. Be careful; be
positive; and be a force for good.

LET'S TALK ABOUT "BEING CONNECTED"...AND ABOUT SUICIDES.
As I have said and written for a long time, this "connected" generation
is the most disconnected in history. Twitter, Face-Book, "social
media", etc. have succeeded in effectively isolating younger people
from personal, face-to-face contacts and capabilities. Face - to
- face, they don't know what to do. No skills in direct
inter-personal relationships and interactions. Sad to see.
And, as I have predicted - but coming faster than I thought - suicides
born of loneliness and isolation are higher than ever and
increasing. People need people, not gadgets. And these
gadgets and "APs" are simply feeding on their already learned
narcissism.
What to do? Use your gadgets to keep in touch with news, not with
people. Get off all the anonymous "social media"...in truth
highly anti-social. Put a smile on your face and say "HELLO" to
someone...anyone...directly and person-to-person. See what happens, to
that person and to you. "The life you save may be your own".

LET'S TALK ABOUT "LOYALTY".
Here the dictionary is not of much help: "Faithfulness to a
cause"...etc. But to what cause? To whom? "Aye, there's the
rub." For, as espoused and practiced in government and in the
business world, it becomes the last refuge of fools and knaves.
Now we keep hearing of the lack of "loyalty" of such notables as Leon
Panetta, Robert Gates and even Hillary Clinton. What we should be
talking about is the misplaced and stupid "loyalty" exemplified by
former President George W. Bush with reference to that lethal failure
Donald Rumsfeld.
How about loyalty to THE TRUTH, to one's responsibilities, and to the
public at large? Does that come with a personal price? You
bet! But it is a price that we should all be ready and willing to
pay to retain our personal integrity. And "whistleblower" should
not be a pejorative term, as it is now made to be.
Of the three "truth-tellers" mentioned above, Robert Gates gets the
prize.
As for myself, I was so traumatized when my first umbilical cord
was cut that I never tied myself to another one.

It
will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking..
Two
men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.
One
man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help
drain the fluid from his lungs.
His
bed was next to the room's only window.
The
other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The
men talked for hours on end.
They
spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their
involvement in the military service,
where
they had been on vacation..
Every
afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would
pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see
outside the window.
The
man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his
world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of
the world outside.
The
window overlooked a park with a lovely lake Ducks and swans played on
the water while children sailed their model boats.
Young
lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view
of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As
the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man
on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this
picturesque scene.
One
warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.
Although
the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's
eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.
Days,
weeks and months passed.

morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to
find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died
peacefully in his sleep.
She
was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As
soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved
next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after
making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly,
painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at
the real world outside.
He
strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.
It
faced a blank wall..
The
man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who
had described such wonderful things outside this window.
The
nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She
said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'
Epilogue:
There
is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own
situations.
Shared
grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If
you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money
can't buy.

PRESIDENT OBAMA AND "EXCELLENT": two words never before seen in in the
same remark in this section.
Steve Croft's extended interview on "60 Minutes" with President Obama,
Sept 28, was an excellent job of substance, notwithstanding what may
have been left on the cutting room floor. No teleprompter (that
we could see), no excessive deference to "the most powerful man on
earth"...and very good questions and answers. Does this mean that
Barack Obama is actually educable, at least insofar as "world order" is
concerned. And/ or did he receive an advance copy of "World
Order" written by the world's most experienced living statesman: Henry
Kissinger? Stay tuned.
